The money given by our students is being used to provide our new friend Fathima and her family with the basic necessities of life. Boys are competing against girls to see who can raise the most money for this worthy cause. The competition will run for a few months at a time and then start back up again. The total amount given includes money given from all previous competitions. The boys and girls totals are the amounts given by each group and the current competition totals reflect each team's standings in the most recent competition.

At our recent LI on September 14th the girls won the first giving competition. They had a large lead going into the night, but almost lost it as the guys came ready to give and got really close. But the girls ended up winning the relay and had another $10 donated in their name which put them over the top. All the girl's names were then placed in a bucket and Amanda was selected to be the lucky student to put a pie in Matt's face. However, by the end of the night the guys had already shot out to an early lead - but can they keep it until the LI in December? Only time will tell.

Fathima and her family

Fathima lives with her parents and one sister. Her parents struggle to provide for the family. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a subsistence farmer. Despite their efforts it is difficult to meet the family's needs.

Fathima is growing up in a poor community in the beautiful country of Sri Lanka. A typical home there is constructed with bricks and metal sheets. Families survive primarily on a diet of rice and curry. The climate is moderate with little variation between summer and winter in this mountainous region.

Fathima is not in school at this time. She likes to play with dolls. She helps at home by learning to do small tasks. She is in good health. Please keep them in your prayers.
